Join The Kettle Wars ---
This hi-profile holiday volunteer program is targeted for businesses and groups who, through friendly competition with their co-workers or peers, team up for a day or afternoon and attempt to raise as much red kettle revenue as possible during an assigned bell ringing shift.
The Kettle War “teams” are scheduled at competitive red kettle locations throughout the city on their competition day(s), with the goal of having the most successful red kettle location.
A team’s success is based on their ability to engage in the most energetic and creative bell ringing. Winning teams are recognized and awarded for their efforts.

BE A BELLRINGER
Dates: Nov. 20 - Dec. 24, 2010
For many individuals and organizations, bell
ringing is a holiday tradition—a way to reach
out to others and make a genuine difference
in the community. As one volunteer bell ringer
put it,
“What a wonderful way to spend a few hours
with friends!”
Volunteer bell ringing is a wonderful opportunity to embrace the holiday season, give back to the community and enjoy sharing the joy that giving truly brings to others.
Your bell ringers shift can consist of a daily or weekly time commitment, or simply a period of several hours dedicated to smiling and greeting holiday shoppers and red kettle donators.
Many bell ringers choose to be festive in their mission by dressing up, offering holiday music and even canine companionship -- all to the success of their donation goals. The Salvation Army will provide you the needed supplies and ringing location, you provide the spirit of Christmas!
Whether you're a retiree or a youth group, a member of a service group, a business or organization, or simply a generous individual, as a Salvation Army bell ringer, you will be offering a service like no other—And the rewards are priceless.

The holiday season isn’t always “white”, nor is it always cold, but it is always jolly with the traditional ringing of bells at The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles.
Beginning November through December 24, over 100 locations throughout Tucson will be collecting donations of pocket change and dollar bills from generous shoppers who donate to The Salvation Army Red Kettles.
These donations help provide the monies for the year-round programs and services for those in need in our community and continue to be one of our most important and well-known fundraising drives. It is never too early to plan to ring.
To do our annual holiday Red Kettles, we count upon the generosity of those who donate as well as the wonderful volunteers who help ring the bells at our city-wide kettles.
The History of The Red Kettles
Unfortunately, he hadn’t the money with which to purchase the food.
He recalled his days as a soldier in Liverpool where he saw a “Simpson’s Pot” - a large stewing pot into which donations were thrown by passers by.
Securing such a pot, he went to the Oakland Ferry landing and placed a sign on top of it, “Keep The Pot Boiling.”
It became an instant success and the funds for the dinner were soon collected.
By Christmas 1895, the Kettle was being used in around 30 Salvation Army Corps of the West Coast area. Kettles traveled to the East Coast by 1897 and 1901, kettle contributions in New York provided the funds for the first Great Christmas Dinner in Madison Square Garden.
Today, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle is known and used throughout the world. The money it raises is used to fund year-round Salvation Army projects and services.
