TREATS FOR TROOPS is an annual donation drive sponsored by Tucson Walgreen's Stores and The Salvation Army.
During July through December, Walgreen's stores city-wide host sales specials for goodies and items that customers can purchase to donate at the store for The Salvation Army to provide to the troops. The Salvation Army collects all the donated goods and sees that they are distibuted to soldiers, families of soldiers and veterans, here and abroad. Organizations from the United States military provide further distribution assistance and specialized packages also ship overseas to soldiers- in -need.
Last year's donations totalled over 1 ton of chocolate and assorted treats. This year's drive has already provided several thousand pounds of candy items. Volunteers from Alcoa Fastening System's, the Naval Academy and other groups have also participated by helping sort, package and deliver goodies.
The 2010 holiday donations are still going out in January...Thak you to everyone who mad this last year's drive so successful!
